LUM004 Peter Berg – XBerg EP

LUM004 Peter Berg – XBerg EP

Peter Berg takes over the 4th release on Lauter Unfug Music. LUM004 is a solid mixture between drain techno and gloomy tech house. The original mix is entitled “X-Berg” which means nothing else than “Kreuzberg”, a region in Germany´s capital in which Peter spent many years of his life. He put a lot of memories into the track, sounds, noises and synths that are stuck in everyone´s head that has ever visited an underground venue in Berlin. The predominant ride shows the influence of techno on the track whilst the percussive elements and the hats tend towards the housy side.

Alex Flatner for his part re-modulates the track into something a bit softer whilst still keeping the dark atmosphere of the original.

DotSTRIPE takes a different approach and drives the vibe towards modern tech-house with a punchy bassline and a wide spectrum.

The “X-Berg” EP is a three-track release that undermines Lauter Unfugs musical path which will find its way onto the dance floors around the globe.

LUM003 Sebastian Schroeder – Yippieh Yuckin’ Yeah

LUM003 Sebastian Schroeder – Yippieh Yuckin’ Yeah

Sebastian Schroeder is one of those guys whose entire life has been marked by music. After singing arias and German folk songs with his grandmother when he was a child, he decided to learn how to play keyboards, organs and other instruments. He later studied sound engineering at the SAE in Berlin and started working in different German studios and started producing his own sound. Only a few years later, he got involved with the Lauter Unfug Crew and has lately become a steady member, leading the mastering service and dropping his first release.

“YieppiehYucking´Yeah” is Schroeders second release and a perfect echo of his capabilities and the style he has developed over the years. The track is buil around a dirty bass line, paired with a punchy kick drum and a classic house groove. The later part of the track is marked by trippy pas and a wet vocal that repeats itself throughout the whole second half of the track. All these elements combined form a wide, mellow and onward atmosphere that makes you want to dive right into the middle of it. Schroeder has come up with a complex and adept composition that well reflects his distinct skills when it comes to music production.

The Second addition to the EP has been made by another “Enfant Terrible”, which is known for his outstanding live performances where usually shows up with an entire arsenal of synthesizers, drum machines and controllers. Saytek adds his own note to Schroeders original mix and makes the whole fairly more melodic. While the vocal remains the same, the bass becomes far more dramatic and the melodies take over the lead on the track.

Simon Shaw completes the EP with a remix that fully stays in track with the rest. Whilst he still uses the main elements, the vibe becomes a bit more vivid and darker. The organs are replaced by a deep horn sound that generates a lot of diversity throughout the whole piece. Simon´s work manages to deliver a perfect match to the Luxembourg and Berlin imprint. The “YieppiehYucking´Yeah” EP is a well-balanced release that features three tracks that sound as if Schroeder, Saytek and Shaw had been spending some lengthy nights together in the same studio to compose it.

LUM002 ND Catani – Backstage EP

LUM002 ND Catani – Backstage EP

ND Catani drops the second release on Lauter Unfug Music. His track “Backstage” is a mixture between contemporary “Jackin´House” and the good old-school vibes found in classic house, so guess what you´ll hear; A thick bass line, mellow chords, saturated vocals and a propulsive drum beat that will get you going throughout the whole record. The second track picks up the pace: Kellerkind delivers a solid, tom-driven addition to the label. He manages to maintain the “housy” vibe of the original piece by adding some classic stab sounds and 808 toms whilst offering a different approach to the genre and putting his focus on the percussions. The third track on this EP follows a more melodic pattern. Hermanez nudges the heavy basses for some mellow pads grouped with leading arpeggiated strings. It´s the kind of tracks that slowly evolves to a soothing breakdown, has a lot of movement and takes you onto a little journey into elsewhere.

The “Backstage EP” is a well-balanced release that features three well-produced pieces covering different niches in the sphere of house music.

LUM001 Riven – When are you Hungry EP

LUM001 Riven – When are you Hungry EP

In 2013, Lauter Unfug started out as a small collective, hosting underground events in the small country of Luxembourg, which had somehow missed its opportunity to join the House and Techno movement around the world in the early 20s and the late 90s Only two years later, they make their debut as a Music Label and already incline the support and the trust by many of the main players in the business.

Riven, one of the founding members of the collective drops LUM001, the very first release on the label. The “When Are You Hungry?” features 3 divergent tracks, each one individually shaped to it’s own essence. The original mix perfectly reflects Riven’s style: Raw, driving and harmonic. He is a true addict of classic drum machines and aptly uses the sounds of the 909 and 707 to create a rhythmic thrust whilst leaving them almost unprocessed. The purity of the elements brings a nice old-school touch to the composition. To complete the piece, Riven draws on further organic elements by adding dry vocals and effects. The lead part is shaped by two different organs, which are generating the bass and the main melody of the track. By combining all of those elements, Riven manages to create a smooth drive that slowly evolves and finds it’s peak about halfway through the track.

For the first release on Lauter Unfug Music, Riven managed to come up with an arrangement that subtlety allows listeners the freedom to choose which elements between the bassline, the drums, atmospherics or overall mood they can focus on.

After releasing on Cadenza, Get Physical and Sintope, Rhadow joins the Lauter Unfug crew and adds his Remix on the Label. He focuses on the main vocals, whilst adding a smooth, rhythmic and uplifting groove on top. Toppling effects that move slowly around the spectrum conclude the composition. Rhadow manages once again to deliver a solid mix and makes the different elements of the track seamlessly melt together. Mikalogic interprets the track in his own, very different manner by adding a bit more drama to the whole. As you might have expected, he uses long pad lines and short melodic stabs joined by huge reverb fills that build-up towards a nice breakdown and fall back to the original beat just after the drop.

The “When Are You Hungry?” is a diversified release that contains three well-grooving tracks and it represents the dawn of a young, adept and onward music label.
